Operational Permits

The International Fire Code authorizes the fire code official to issue Operational Permits to oversee the safety of operations that pose an increased safety risk (Section 105.6 of the 2018 IFC). Some examples include the sale and use of fireworks and other explosives, tents and canopies, fuel dispensing and storage, distillation processes, flammable finish application (spray booths), storage and dispensing of medical or compressed gases, cryogenic use, and high-piles combustible storage. These permits are typically renewed annually after an inspection conducted by LFRA; fireworks permits, however, must be newly applied for, approved, and inspected each year.
