Looking for a meaningful way to give back to your community?
Become a Volunteer Firefighter with Loveland Fire Rescue Authority (LFRA) and be part of something bigger. Our volunteers are essential to our mission - supporting emergency response, wildfire suppression, and community outreach across our diverse service area.
Where Volunteers Serve
LFRA operates two volunteer-staffed fire stations that serve the residents of the Big Thompson Canyon and Cedar Park areas:
- Station 8 - Located on Highway 34 at 1461 Big Thompson Road, Drake, CO
- Station 9 - Located at the top of Storm Mountain at 100 Palisade Mountain Drive, Drake, CO
To be eligible for a volunteer firefighter position, all applicants must reside within the designated in-district area. This residency requirement ensures timely response.
Wildland/EMS Firefighter
Minimum Qualifications
- 18 Years of age or older
- Valid Driver's License with a safe driving record
- High School Diploma or Equivalent education
- A completed LFRA volunteer application
- Must live in-district: to review the Map (PDF)

Additional Certifications Required After Recruitment
- S-130/190, L-180 within 90 days of appointment
- NIMS ICS 100/200/700/800 within 90 days of appointment
- Current Healthcare Provider CPR Certification within 12 months of appointment
- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Certification within 12 months of appointment
- Successful completion of a VFIS Emergent Drivers Training course
- Responsible for performing wildland fire suppression operations and rescue and recovery under the direct supervision of the Company Officer, Group or Division Supervisor, or Incident Commander.
- Attend training and/or meetings.
- Attend and represent the department at Special Events.
- Meet in-district volunteer requirements
- Participate in 18 hours of department business every 6 months
- Participate in continual professional development with internal and external training opportunities.
