Wildland Urban Interface Application & Checklist
Structures falling within the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI)/Wildfire Zone shall comply with LFRA 2021 International Fire Code Appendix O and require a permit from LFRA. WUI code requirements can be found on our Wildfire Risk Reduction webpage.
You will submit and obtain a construction permit from the applicable building department: either the City of Loveland Building Division in the City of Loveland or the Larimer County Building Division in unincorporated Larimer County. LFRA is part of these two review processes.
If your property is in the City of Loveland:
- LFRA is part of the city's permit review process. When you submit to the building division check-in for your permit, you must include the completed LFRA application and checklist. (This includes single-family homes, commercial buildings, and multi-family apartments.)
- The application/checklist outlines all submittal requirements for the LFRA review.
- The fee for permit plan reviews and inspections is $400, payable upon permit approval. This permit fee will go into effect January 1, 2024.
If your property is in unincorporated Larimer County:
Submit directly to LFRA for a building permit. Complete the WUI Building Permit Application and Checklist (PDF) and email it to Eplan Fire. The application/checklist outlines all submittal requirements for the LFRA review. Larimer County Building Division will not issue you their permit until LFRA has issued its permit to you. Review time is typically 15 working days.
The fee for permit plan reviews and inspections is $400, payable upon permit approval. This permit fee will go into effect January 1, 2024.

Construction inspections
At the appropriate phase during construction (this information will be included in your written permit conditions), the builder must contact LFRA 970-962-2497 at least 48 hours in advance to schedule inspections to verify construction materials and methods (structure hardening), fuels management (landscaping materials and location) and fences are the same as what was approved during the permit review process.
